We're takin' over Boys ![]() Finally, upper American folks are realizing that there's more talent there than just Laskin, Manzer and DeJonge! So, Graham, for what have you been commissioned? Jumbo, OM, D***dn****t, Parlor, Dining room table??? |
Finally, upper American folks are realizing that there's more talent there than just Laskin, Manzer and DeJonge!
Glup..... that's quite the list there Carlton. There's also this small time builder in the Vancouver area, you may have heard of him..... Jean Larrivee. ![]() There are a ton others here in BC, like Ted Thompson, John McQuarrie of Northwood guitars, Our own Robert Bustos of Paragon guitars, Michael Heiden (google this guy, he makes awsome mandolins), Jay Duncan, and I can't remember the rest although there are many more locals here in BC. |

Carlton, I'm going to make a OLF SJ. The customer wants a red top so I'm going to show him my WRC(Highmountain tonewoods-H.M.T.) and my Redwood(Bluespirit tonewoods) tops and see which he prefers. The back and sides will be EI rosewood(Also H.M.T.) I gave him an estimated finish date of Sept 1st. Which might be a bit difficult for me since the guitar I'm currently working on was started last summer! Oh well I was in the process of setting up my shop and I think I went a little to complicated with the details considering it is only my second. This one will have simpler trim since that's what really slowed me down on my current build. Oh that and all the mistakes and screw ups. ![]() Did I say screw ups? I meant Expeirments for the furtherment of my Luthier skills. yeah that's it.... ![]() |

He's all Canadian ![]() You guys forgot Dave Iannone/Morgan Guitars, another BC guy going strong. BTW Rod I turned down 3 paying commisions last year and I've got a couple builds traded for services when the time is available ![]() I don't have much time for building right now, been pokin away on some electrics and building jigs but I can't get a space with any kind of stable enviroment ( you wouldn't believe what a pallet of wet wood does to a room ;) ).. New temp/humidity controlled workplace coming in the near (hopefully) future.. Soon it will be warm and dry for a few months.. er weeks (this is BC after all).. maybe I can get one done real quick ![]() |

More BC'ers...David Webber and his assistant do between 80 and 100 guitars a year in Vancouver (Marketed mostly in the US). John Parks in the Penticton area builds classicals and is participating in one of the GAL sessions. Peter Hopkins builds awesome archtops in Summerland. My buddy Steve Heizer has just retired from the day job and builds in Yellow Point on Vancouver Island, when ever he isn't shuffling kids to soccer and the lot! There are a LOT more around too, including Bob Laughlin who continues to experiment but makes incredible sounding guitars in Vancouver, and Larry Stamm builds guitars and mandos on the east side of the Rockies in McBride. I could go on, but I am sure we all could! The community of builders are fairly significant but still small enough that you can really get to know a good deal of them. Yours in awe! Shane |

BOB LAUGHLIN! I was trying to remember his name! I met him at Healdsburg, he had a mando with Dogwood back&sides. |

BC rocks no doubt! I love it here and Im glad there is a pool of talent for me to draw from~!!! Jason said "You guys forgot Dave Iannone/Morgan Guitars, another BC guy going strong." As I have said in other posts I just made the trade of a lifetime for a Morgan OM - I traded a bunch of computer recording equipment thats in the middle of a nosedive value-wise, so I feel I got the better deal. I cant stop playing this guitar - its handcrafted Sitka/EI Rosewood , flame maple binding, SA mohogany neck, with ebony bridge and fretboard and headplate, tasteful M logo inlay, and abalone rosette. Nitro finish. I have owned Gibsons, Martins, high end Taylors, a Northwood, and various other guitars, This guitar is hands down the nicest sounding and playing guitar I have ever owned. David Ianonne is a masterful builder, and I cant say enough about his guitars, My last guitar was a Taylor 814ce Grand Concert, {expression system model}that cost nearly 2wice what this OM did and the Taylor only sounded half as good! ![]() Morgan's are on the rise in commercial circles and a very good value in the market! 3cheers to all BC boys and keep up the good work. ![]() Charliewood |
